Dr Hauptman is dedicated to serving the community and is very active on various dental organizations.  He has served on several local boards including the executive board of the Northern Virginia Dental Society for the past five years.  A great source of satisfaction for him has been his service to the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic, an indigent care clinic in the Baileys Crossroads area.  He has been a frequent volunteer during the Clinic’s 11 year history and has served as the President of its Board of Directors for the past six years.

Dr Hauptman’s commitment to continuing education has led him to update his skills via frequent attendance at various courses.  He is currently involved in a series of courses on the latest updates in Temperomandibular (TMJ) treatment and the treatment of occlusal (bite) problems.  This curriculum requires attendance at courses for three days every other month for a period of two and one-half years.  Occlusal problems have become more common due to the frequency of grinding and clenching issues in today’s patient population.  His passion for continuing education has led him to being named Program Director of Continuing Education for the Northern Virginia Dental Society for 2006-2007.

On a personal level, Dr Hauptman’s hobbies include fitness, bicycling, running and golf.  He has completed nine marathons over the past ten years, the latest being the New York marathon in November 2005.  He has also completed numerous Olympic length triathlons, in addition to a half- ironman triathlon.  He and his wife, Melissa Duprat, reside in Vienna, Virginia and enjoy spending time together in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
