Implants/Mini Implants

Dental implants are the current state-of-the-art treatment for replacing a missing tooth. An implant is basically an artificial tooth root – it is a small, screw-like post that is bonded permanently to the jawbone, forming a stable foundation for a replacement tooth. Implants are made of titanium, a metal that the body easily accepts.

Dental implants offer a number of advantages over traditional bridges and dentures.

• An implant can replace a single tooth without the need to grind down adjacent teeth, as is necessary to support a bridge.
• In cases in which two or more teeth are missing, two implants can be used to anchor a bridge. Again, this eliminates the need to secure a partial denture to adjacent, healthy teeth.
• Implants can be used to provide a foundation for full dentures. The denture stays securely in place and is still easily removed for cleaning. Seating a full denture on implants can also eliminate the painful sore spots experienced by many patients with conventional dentures.

The mini implant is a smaller version of the standard dental implant. Mini implants are also made from titanium alloy and are just as strong as full-sized implants. Mini implants work best for replacing small teeth and for securing lower dentures. In most cases, a mini implant can be inserted and fully functional after a single visit. The procedure is less invasive than a standard implant.
