We are very proud of our staff! We’re particularly pleased with the longevity of our team members. Barb and Anne have each worked with Dr. Hauptman for over twenty years; Kathy has been here sixteen years and Lesley has worked with us for fifteen years. Colleen and Tasha have been with us over five years each and Carol and Diana are coming up on three years each.
We are proud of our lack of turnover and feel it reflects well on the stability of our office.
Anne was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and graduated from Dental Assisting School in Seattle in 1963. She started her career for a dentist who worked with just one employee, as was the style of practice at the time. This meant that Anne was responsible for all clinical assistance, as well as the front desk work. During a break from her dental career Anne spent some time working as a flight attendant for the now-defunct Braniff Airlines of Dallas, Texas.
Anne retired from the dental profession for a few years to help raise a family. Her husband, Jim, was a career Naval Officer, so she spent time living in places such as Coronado, California and Newport, Rhode Island. She made 18 moves before finally settling in Virginia. Anne has three children and five grandchildren. Her daughter Kimberly and family live in the Netherlands; son David and Family live in Frederick, Maryland; and daughter Marilyn and family live here in Northern Virginia. Jim is now retired from the Navy, and currently sells real estate with Long & Foster. Although the children are gone, the house hasn’t gone quiet – Anne and Jim have three cats and one dog.
Anne is Drs. Hauptman and Rowhani's employee of longest standing, having been with the practice for more than twenty-two years. During her tenure she has worked at the front desk and chair side, and she currently manages our continuing care program. The Doctors hope she can hang in there many more years!
Barbara was raised in Cumberland, Maryland, where she graduated from college and got her first job with a dentist. In 1982 she married her husband Tom and moved to the Northern Virginia area.
Barb started working for Dr. Hauptman in 1983, and stayed for more than 20 years. She felt it necessary to leave in 2004 to work closer to home, as her children were in middle school and she wanted to give them more of her time. She has worked with Dr. Hauptman for 21 of the past 27 years.
Barb has returned to our office full-time, as her children are now almost grown. Katie attends Christopher Newport University, and Matt headed off to college in the fall of 2010. Matt currently attends Northern Virginia Community College and will transfer to a 4-year program in 2011.
Lesley was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida when she was twelve. After graduating from the Certified Dental Assisting Program at Daytona Beach Community College in 1995, she moved to Virginia. Dr. Hauptman hired her for her first job out of school. Lesley and her daughter, Olivia, enjoy living in Ashburn.
Lesley continues to support the Foster Care program (she has participated in the program as a Foster Mom) with public speaking engagements and helped pass a Virginia bill in 2003 giving foster parents legal standing. Lesley enjoys visiting family in Florida and organizing play groups with Olivia.
Tasha was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and grew up in the nearby small town of Dumas, approximately 30 miles outside of the capital. She moved to this area with her significant other, a Federal Air Marshall. Tasha graduated from dental assisting school in 2000 and has worked with us since early 2004. She has many expanded function skills, and is always learning more clinical and computer skills through the continuing education courses she attends with our office. We hope you enjoy getting to know Tasha during your visits as much as we have over the years.
Tasha resides in Maryland with her two children, Shalandria and LaTierra, and their dog Butch. In her spare time, Tasha enjoys outdoor activities with her children.
Originally from Northeast Pennsylvania, Colleen moved to Northern Virginia in 2001 when her husband Gino joined the U.S. Capitol Police. Colleen has been a licensed dental hygienist since June 2004, and has spent the majority of those years with our office. She strives to provide thorough and gentle periodontal treatment, and stresses the importance of maintaining good dental health for patients’ well-being.
In her spare time, Colleen enjoys spending time with her family. She has a beautiful daughter, Lina, a baby boy named Gino, and a cute bulldog named Chesty. Colleen frequently travels back to her hometown of Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, to visit her family.
Kathy was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. Since graduating from the University of Iowa in 1971, she has practiced in many locations throughout the United States – her husband Tom’s naval career has kept them on the move. Kathy has spent the bulk of her time in Annapolis, Maryland; Whidbey Island, Washington; San Diego, California; and here in Northern Virginia.
Kathy has been working with Dr. Hauptman since 1993, and has been in the periodontal therapy profession for more than 38 years. She is a member of the Northern Virginia Dental Hygienist Association and her enthusiasm and dedication to patient care and her profession continue to this day.
Kathy and her husband, Tom, have two children. Their son Pat lives with his wife Samantha outside of Seattle, Washington. Their daughter Sarah lives in Boston with her husband Chris. Kathy's hobbies include gardening, reading, travel, cooking and walking.
Carol Simpson is our front office "Director of First Impressions." She has been a patient of the practice since 2001, so she knew what she was getting herself into when she joined our staff in March 2008.
Carol has a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from Georgetown University. She spent much of her life as a non-profit executive and in administration of assisted living facilities. As one of her "big" birthdays approached, she decided to go back to school at NVCC in order to start a new career in practice management.
Prior to joining Dr. Hauptman and Dr. Rowhani, Carol was office manager for a pediatric occupational and physical therapy practice.
Carol and her husband Dale love to (safely) ride motorcycles and are building a second home in Culpeper, Virginia. Their daughter, Elizabeth, is a special education teacher. They have lived in Falls Church for more than thirty years and have a variety of pets.
Carol is looking forward to meeting and assisting you.
Diana came to us as a student in the fall of 2008 and stayed on after completing dental assistant school. She was born and raised here in Northern Virginia and she and her husband, Reza, live in Herndon.
