1. Strive for 22-24 hours a day of wear.
  2. Start new set of trays at nighttime.
  3. Take out trays when eating or drinking any beverages besides water.
  4. Limit time with trays out to 40 minutes.
  5. Clean trays daily with a soft toothbrush, mild hand soap and cool water.
  6. Option to soak trays in hydrogen peroxide while brushing teeth. You may use the same hydrogen peroxide solution for up to one week. After one week, discard hydrogen peroxide and replace with fresh hydrogen peroxide.
  7. Keep trays away from pets and small children at all times.
  8. Try to keep a retainer box in the kitchen or where you eat meals and snacks most often to prevent tossing the trays in the trash by accident.
  9. Always keep the previous trays in case you lose/damage your current trays.
  10. If you find that the edges of the trays are cutting into your tongue, use an emery board or nail file to smooth down the edges.
  11. If you are a patient who is wearing rubber bands, please wear the rubber bands as instructed by the doctor.
  12. Remember that your trays are plastic. The more you remove and place them back in your mouth, the more that they will distort. Please try to limit how many times you remove your trays.

In the case that you misplace or lose the trays, or the trays become damaged:

  1. If you have been wearing a set of trays for at least 7 days, and then you lose them or they become damaged, you may move to the next set of trays and wear those for 3 weeks. Then, resume regular tray wearing as usual.
  2. If you have been wearing a set of trays for less than 7 days, and then you lose them or they become damaged, switch to the previous set of trays that you’ve kept and call the office to order a new set of replacement trays (there will be a charge from Invisalign to you).
  3. Keep wearing the last set of trays until you receive the new replacement set of trays.
